Happy Birthday Madiba - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela!...

So we are here in SA for the birthday of the honourable Nelson Mandela. Born July 18, 1918

There were a number of ways of referring to Nelson and to use them interchangeably. My used Madiba, and this was done for two reasons. Generally speaking among people who'd been in the underground, it became a habit not to use first names, but to use some pseudonym or other, and when it came to people who were traditional Africans, the easiest way was to use a clan name, rather than use the name that was known by the system, the English name and so on ... So Madiba was the most popular clan name used for Nelson ...

Often on this drive we’ve discussed the recent and past history of this place. The years of separation, the effect on the people, the effect on the world. We discussed Winnie and her nationalist movement and tactics for which I believe she currently spending time in jail for. What is the future of this place. Thank God for the courageous Blacks making strides, for having the strength to step up. Thank God for the Afrikaans who are equally as willing to seek out a truly democratic society. But there are still many problems, how will they get education to all? What about this huge problem of AIDS / HIV? I said somewhere on this Blog that this is a very European culture.. with much African culture mixed in. Should it become the opposite? What’s the perfect balance? What’s fair? Zimbabwes Mugabe, although understandable in his reasoning.. screwed the whole land redistribution thing up.. in my opinion.. So what’s South African’s to do?

I know too political.. I know get back to the trip..
